Now that we’ve had a “Great post! “ in this thread, let’s get the Niagara thread up and running LOL. My string of good luck is over. I think the Game Thread torch needs to be handed to someone new!

We just do not have the consistent 3 point shooters that we had. EJ was good in past years but was one-dimensional. I like his game better as one who drives the basket. He's a good athlete who is now more than a 3 point threat. I think others have lost confidence. Risto was making moon-shots early in the season, but last night he didn't even hit iron on one. I like him and think he'll get better, but he's struggling with his 3 point shot now. We just don't have the guys who we could rely on for the 3 ball. The post in this thread that showed how our guys have done over the last few games was sobering. I think the number was 7%. Gist can hit them, but he was 2-7 last night (the 2 he made were big). Every time Agee shoots a 3 I'm yelling, "no, no, no" it's rare that I follow it up with a, "Yes!". I realize he can make them and realize that there are times he is forced to shoot them, but I like his game more when he's going inside. I think that we are putting too much pressure on ourselves (especially Ricky) and just not playing up to potential. I'm sure that Ricky would like to be the MAAC player who wins the tourney 4 years in a row. If we are disappointed in this season, think how this has to be disappointing to Ricky and the rest of the team/coaches. It's a long-shot, but I'm not going to be surprised if we cut down the nets in Albany. We need confidence, we need to stop making dumb mistakes, we need some of our 3s to fall, we need to play up to our potential, we need to rebound, we need to play some defense, and we need a bit of luck. Iona is the defending MAAC champ - play like it. Go Gaels!!! Good post Z. My only concern is do we have the horses necessary to address the needs pointed out in your final paragraph.

Not sure how much pressure players are putting on themselves. In the shoot-around yesterday team spent much of the time trying spectacular dunks, mostly unsuccessfully. They should have focused on outside shooting and their mindset. just wondering what McGill was do I g since he is the one pressing the most

java, I might have opinions, but I don't have answers. It takes me longer than most, just to type a sentence. W/o having a specific question in mind, I'm sure there are times.......... .

Yeah! This is a busy day for the Ledge Mayor. Herding cats here. I'm a bit upset at 59 for taking a poke at 81. Can't get the message through on how sensitive 81 is. Between you and me, I would rather read 59 on Coaching 101 than 81. At least, the former's posts are well articulated, even if not accurate. They're both idiots - and your stupid for defending one of them! Not my stupid!! According to chels, my stupid is 20 assists per game.

This probably won’t be a popular opinion but I still will place the blame on Cluess that they didn’t foul at the end. Cluess is great at most part of coaching but his timeout coaching and his defense coaching are not his strengths. It seems every time he calls a timeout to set up a play the players don’t listen to him, why is that? It’s his job to make sure they listen to him. This reminds me of The Jets fired coach Bowles always blaming the player for all the penalties that got every game, if it happens every game it’s the coaches fault not the players, he is not getting them to listen and maybe that’s because they weren’t punished for their mistakes. For Clues he seems to punish some players by putting them in the “doghouse” but others seem to get a pass. Whatever it is I know for 9 years I have seen Cluess call timeouts to draw up a last play of the half or game and it rarely seems to work, in fact they rarely get a shot off or make a stop. Not sure why this is the case but in the huddle when focused on one play it rarely seems to work out and after the game you hear the players don’t do what he said to do. When you hear and see this all the time you wonder what is going on that they don’t do what he says. I think this is something to think about, and in this situation by the players not listening I am blaming it on Cluess not getting his point across. Cluess is the best coach in the MAAC, but he has not had a great season. The fact you can't question anything he does by a couple of board members is ridiculous. Benching Gist in the Siena game cost Iona the game. The recruiting class has been a bust, which has led to a roster where the pieces just don't fit together. I sat 2 rows behind the Iona bench last night, and quite frankly don't know how much help he gets from his assistants. Grasso used to be very involved, not so much with the current staff. Cluess gets a pass after the past 8 great years, but he has his hands full trying to keep Iona at the top of the MAAC. He needs to turn over the roster and make a move or two on the staff. Good point about the assistant coaches. Zero emotion from Eaton and the hair gel coach who sits to the right of TC after Gist drained that 2nd 3-pointer. Grasso always seemed to be there with enthusiasm for his players.

They should have focused on outside shooting and their mindset. I posted this same point a few games ago, especially with Nikolic. Nikolic struggles finishing shots, but spends the entire warm up taking all kinds of dunks. No problem with the guys having fun before the game. But mix in some shots you will probably attempt in the game. Having said that, Ristanovic never dunks before the game and takes mostly threes, and we see how that has worked out the last few games. I always get to the game an hour early. Maybe I should pull Risto to the side and tell him to throw some down pregame..

Rickey was bad from deep and did miss a critical front end, but his overall game wasn't terrible. His four assists, with zero turnovers, would have been even better if his teammates had knocked down more shots. I know it's hard to get over the FT miss. I think it's safe to say that EJ is now the "go to" guy.
