I do think if Tobin can get Cluess level recruits in here he will be excellent for us. Tobin will get it done. This is a rebuilding year. The single minded emphasis on defense while the offense is so incompetent does concern me. But I also recall the early Cluess years where the single minded emphasis on offense while his defense was often incompetent concerning me. Tobin will balance things out and the program will do well. I suspect we will need next years players to get that done. |

Gordon’s limited play time really concerns me… I think Tobin just wasn’t happy with how he was playing. Gordon is streaky, sometimes looks great, sometimes terrible . He symbolizes the entire team, not consistent and can’t score consistently in a normal fashion. joebird, aside from Shema’s play tonight the same could be said of just about everybody else, yet they got considerably more than his 10” of play time. I think something happened… |

I think there has been enough of a sample size, where we are past the "work in process" stage to "it is what it is".
Team will have some great shooting nights and get some blowout wins, but overall the upperclassmen are a major disappointment. If Gordon was benched tonight, and not injured, sit his ass to start the game Sunday with Tretout right next to him. Enough.
Hope to see Sunday:

Brown
Aranguren
Quigley
At least we will see energy and fight right from the start.

I think the reaction you are seeing tonight is that many of us thought we turned the corner and were still a team that can be viewed as a maac favorite. But tonight exposed our flaws and showed the realization that this team is very mediocre and will have its good days and bad but simply doesn’t have the talent, especially offensively to do anything special this year. I do think Tobin is the right guy, as long as he accepts that you need as many upper classmen as under classmen. You can no longer win without bringing in talented 1 and 2 year upper classmen.

Tobin is an excellent coach, he is getting our guys constant open looks and we are not executing simple D1 level offensive shots. 2. We don’t have talent up to the standards the program has set over the past 14 years. 3. We should be more lenient in our assessment this year than in most years because we had to slap a team together on the go. With all of that said, we can say what we want about delusion, but Iona should not be losing MAAC games to Marist at home and getting destroyed by SPU. I don’t believe this is delusional, I believe this is the minimum expectation we should have for the program. Delusion is expecting NCAA wins and sweeps in AC every year without any missteps. I think the coaching is very good, the talent is just not where it needs to be. I am sure this will change next year once we have a full offseason to hit the recruiting trail. |

I think we will be very good next year and I think Tobin is a terrific coach. However, let’s not forget Iona is a brand in the MAAC and the players we have on this roster are not at the level they should be expected to be at IMO. Iona is the Kentucky of the MAAC. There is no Kentucky of the MAAC. Iona is allowed to have a bad year. Kansas? |
