1970, thanks for bringing up the officiating. As well as my friends who were sitting near me at the game, I thought the officiating was much better than usual, but were surprised by one thing. In the early part of the game, it seemed that a whistle blew on almost every play, and most calls were aginst Quinny. And, with our shortened bench, I figured the calls would even out and we might be in foul trouble. But ABOUT ten minutes (or so it seemed) the whistles stopped, for the most part. Is it possible that the lead official, Brian O'Connell, reminded the other two refs that Friday night was not a night for tickey tack fouls? P.S. Maybe Quinny never complained, because they had us where they wanted us. On the foul line. Vin Parisi mentioned on the broadcast that this same crew was headed down to officiate the Virginia-Duke game. So they were not your typical MAAC referees. Any chance they had a plane to catch?

The MAAC. I would think a QU-Niagara final would have zero juice. At least when Iona/Manhattan and Iona/Siena were relevant there was some buzz and interest in the press. They would get press in those areas, 2 well known coaches, you live in a vacuum You really think the MAAC would be just as pleased having QU-Nia in the finals than Iona-Siena? I guess your point is that it doesn’t matter since they all would get local press, but I believe that the league is always better off locally and nationally when the flagship programs are fighting for championships - Iona, Siena, Manhattan.

Locally how? Those schools will get way more press than we do. We get 1 day. We were lucky if Pitino even got on the radio, never mind Cluess. Niagara makes it it will be covered in Buffalo, quinny will be also, they both have coaches that will have a story how they got to the dance.

It ain't over till it's over. Some of you guys are packing up and going home to wait for "next" season. We expect the kids to keep grinding and trying their best, I think the least we can do is see how the year finishes up before we cut and run. While this team is frustrating to watch they still deserve our support. Many of these guys came her to play in the NCAA's... anything can happen in the MAAC tournament... let's see how this plays out. If we expect the kids to give it their best and not give up, I think we can do the same.

No reason Saunders didn't play yesterday. You can't play with a 6 foot 5 3 pt shooter as your center and win. I know he is weak on D, but we literally had no one going after rebounds. Also maybe he could get hot. The only way we win is we get 2 players hot in a game and pray I agree. Saunders needs to see some run and not two minutes here or there. We have few players that can shoot the 3 with consistency... so why sit the player who you claimed was the best shooting recruit that you had seen in that recruiting cycle.

My "issue" with that presser, not the 1st time this year Tobin has mentioned have to make foul shots. I mean Brown and Gordon are career 50% from the line. Both do most of their scoring driving to the hoop, and getting fouled. Pretty much lost possessions, since it's rare they knock down both. Not sure fair to expect better from them Even JQ and Aranguren were bricking them last night, though. Lots of good freshman seem to wear out by the end of their first season.

With Jean Aranguren, I don't think it's a case of wearing out, but rather a loss of confidence. He needs to hit an early shot, and think that would make a big difference. With JQ, because of his slight build, it makes more sense.
On Friday JA led the team in rebounding (8).

So, a crazy thought. Forget Marist, I can't see us beating them right now even though they're due for a letdown performance. Manhattan and Siena are both quite bad. We are as well, but let's say we squeak outta Draddy with a W. Two days later, handle Siena. Then, 7-10 game against one of them again. Suddenly, you've won 3 straight going into the quarters, feeling good about yourselves. Certainly no one in the MAAC is that good, and whoever the 2 is won't be a monstrous favorite over us. This is the MAAC. I was wrong about the "forget Marist" part, but the rest is looking good, and this win keeps that 6 seed in play. INTERESTING. WE ARE NOT DEAD YET.
