On to 24/25 but last comment to defend my posts last night. I thought Tretout and Aranguren in the second half were walking turnovers and needed to come out, and Bates was playing well. Would have used Bates more for one of them as he seemed like he had the hot hand. Brown playing with 2 fouls in the first half is not smart, and he does this regularly. Anyway I think Tobin is a good coach and the right guy to lead the program but I think he also makes some questionable moves at times and feel he could use a veteran to bounce ideas off of, or someone whisper in his ear if they may see an opportunity we should be considering. +1

I understand that many of you may be experiencing disappointment pertaining to this season. Rest assured, none of us are more disheartened than the team and staff themselves.
Tobin found himself in a challenging situation, with Pitino's departure and Rick's telling players to flee the programl, compounded by the loss of our planned NIL program. Despite these setbacks, Tobin has shown remarkable resilience, securing impressive recruits even without a defined NIL framework.
Having closely followed Tobin's career since his tenure at STAC, I can confidently assert that our program is in capable hands. The amalgamation of our existing young talent with the incoming trio of freshmen—Wallace, Menard, and Hogarth—has me excited for the upcoming season. These recruits have not merely excelled in their high school leagues; they have demonstrated their prowess in one of the nation's premier basketball circuits, showcasing not only athleticism but also skill, intelligence and toughness. It's worth noting that these freshmen aren't typical newcomers, having honed their skills during a preparatory year to both physically and mentally mature. This aligns perfectly with Tobin's recruiting philosophy. With the potential addition of a few key JUCO or transfer players, particularly in positions such as small forward and center, we will be right back at the top of the conference.
In addition to our on-court prospects, it's essential to acknowledge the unwavering support of Iona's administration...a resource not readily available to every program, particularly at our level. Coupled with Iona's upward swing in academic prowess and the financial stability of the institution, we find ourselves in a position of strength across the board.
Despite temporary setbacks, the outlook for our program is undeniably bright. I urge you to maintain your steadfast support and stay the course, for I have no doubt that the best days lie ahead on North Avenue.

I think you are just wildly speculating because you’re upset at how the season turned out. But hey, it’s a message board and any opinion can be posted. No I am dead serious. We are in a full free agency. What if anything this year would inspire any of them to stay. JQ can go make $$$$ if he wants. The other guys either have to really love the staff and school or maybe the high student turn out. I dont see why they wouldnt at least put their name in the hat. You can always go back if you wish. So we have a NIL program. We can't offer JQ some money if we want to? If you enter the portal, I believe you relinquish your scholarship, so we don't have to take you back if you change your mind. Now I like the freshmen. I think, as Tobin said last night, Jean hit the proverbial freshman wall. JQ played great for a freshman. Sultan has a lot of upside. Bates has shown flashes in limited time as Saunders has. But really, where are these guys going after this year? I suppose it's possible some guys might transfer because they didn't like their experience or the school, etc. That will happen for all teams. Tobin had to rely on the grad transfers last night. They have the most experience. It looked to me like the team was gassed at about the 4 minute mark, which is why we saw the mental mistakes late and a lot of guys having to go solo to the hoop. Not much movement. Say all you want that 20 year old guys shouldn't be gassed late in game after playing the night before, but that just ignores the reality of human biology. And it's not a problem so much if your opponent also played the night before and is a bit gassed. That's why high seeds earn the right to play 3 games instead of four and get preferential scheduling during tournaments. People who run college hoops tournaments seem to get this. Last year against Marist we were tied at the half in the championship game. Marist was playing their fourth game. It was our third. Our strategy from our coaching guru was simply to press and wear them out. And we did.

With this disappointing season over, I want to acknowledge the posters here who never disappoint with upcoming game information, roundups from games of interest... etc. I only benefit here and contribute little, so thanks to those who contribute time and insight to provide the information. Go Gaels!!!

Just dropped a podcast episode, which includes last night's presser. If you didn't hear it, it was outstanding, great jobs by Brown, JQ and Tobin talking about what it means to be a Gael and the future of the program.

Commissioner: Tellitocci said the MAAC is also exploring moving the men’s and women’s championship games back to a weekday. The MAAC has been playing its men’s and women’s title games on Saturday, the day before NCAA Selection Sunday, since putting the tournament at Boardwalk Hall four years ago. Previously, it was played on Monday in primetime.
It’s a problem that would be compounded with the arrival of Merrimack and Sacred Heart. That would mean bringing 26 men’s and women’s teams to Atlantic City instead of the current 22.
If that’s the case, Tellitocci said the tournament could be extended to seven days from the current five with alternating days for men’s and women’s games and then combining them for the semifinals.
Going to be hard to do with Ensor's AC commitment.

I can certainly understand why they got it wrong, considering his size and weight, but they mixed up his rebounds and assists.

At this point not going to recap or retort to anything that I have read. Interesting more posters posting their thoughts than there were fans in AC. Missed a total of 4 games this year and as many of you know have been a long time fan. I will say this-definitely we might have been overmatched in many of our games. Match ups were not in our favor. One of my strong points is reading body language. This group of young men never gave up and played hard every game. Last night I thanked every player, on their return to the hotel. Not as a group but individually. The looks on their faces as I greeted them told the complete story. We tried and gave it our best. The same can be said for our coaching staff. TA never pointed fingers and blamed players. If anything he sometimes blamed himself. Well no blame from this person. This season is in the books and time to rebuild and restructure. I thank all of our seniors. Oz you gave it your best shot! May the future be bright for our graduating class. Our returning players bring back the charisma and continue to build and or add to the IU legacy!! Another bright note Our athletic department lead by Matt and Brian Davis Jamie Fogarty as well as Brian Beyrer greeted our players and staff on their late night return to the hotel. Truly a positive act and full of class. Looking forward to continued success. One other thought-winning 15 games with what our staff had to go through was awesome. Greg Guy and our guy in SI thanks for being a part. To all my old friends as well as some of the new people I have met lets continue to support. Always Coach Al

Just want everyone to know what you missed, because we didn't beat FF. Ernest Lawrence Thayer and I had something special in mind. Oh well.

NC State just won 5 games in 5 days.
Don't ever tell me about fatigue for these young guys.
It's only an excuse when you lose.

After tonight if Im Bates I am gone. Kids on fire and is not playing to allow Tretout to destroy the lead late in the game with NBA range three point bricks, turnovers, and sloppy plays. Where the fuck is he going to go? We will lose a couple of players I'm sure. But likely to be coaches decision as much as player running to greener pastures. We lost everyone.
