Congratulations to the Peacocks. If Iona had to lose I'm glad it was SPC going to the NCAA.
Weird game by Iona. So many bizarre shots and passes by the guards in the lane. They looked like plays you'd expect from people who had never seen a basketball game, much less played one.
Glover was the one guy who came to play. He kept it close pretty much by himself.

Yes, congrats to Dunne, his staff and his players. They played a great game and deserved to win. It is so hard to take a team out three times in a season. We just got into too deep a hole to escape. Hopefully, we learned from this one and make the return trip next season.
So tantalizingly close. UGH! Lucy, please put the football back down.

Thought SP's played great D the whole night. Didn't help that when we got some shots early they didn't fall. I think Kyle's injury also hurt us, but the way they were playing perimeter D early on, it would've been hard for him to get open looks. Once we got behind, we seemed to lose our composure and force a lot of shots. Played like we used to play - a lot of missed lay ups when we got to the basket. We just could never get into any offensive rhythm.

I would never have thought that we would have had 38 points after 35 minutes of play. Some bad breaks, but mostly due to SPC's defense and dictating the tempo of play. Thought that Dwight's "steal" inside a minute might help us pull it out in the end, but the refs called a foul.
I'm disappointed that we aren't going to the NCAAs, but the sun will come up tomorrow and there is a bright future for Iona College basketball. I have no doubt that Tim Cluess will get us back to The Dance.
Go Gaels!!!

Completely agreee with you guys about Dunne coaching a great game. Had his guys ready for a game against Iona, and credit the players for executing his plans. However, we were outcoached and outplayed both ends. Questionable decisions by Cluess: 1)Taking the final TO when he did? Whats that about? They were having a hard time getting the ball in why call a to and give them a chance to set up an inbounds play? 2) Arod playing minimal minutes. Now I understand he isnt much of an offensive threat, and we have much better scorers but 17 mins total. Atleast he can make layups on a night where no1 could make one if their life depended on it. He also brings energy and leadership. 3) Coach also had no answer for St. Petes defense, even after the half.
We also picked one hell of a night to shoot 15% from 3.
While I thought he was a great kid for Iona in his four years, and its hard to see him go out like that but Dwight was awful tonight. Terrible shooting, 2-13 fg 2-6 3pt. but even worse was his decision making. He consistently made bad passes, took bad shots, losing his man on defense. Combination of things.
I'm not sure I can even watch this team in a post season tournament other than the NCAA.

the refs sucked. That was not a foul on Dwight at all.

the refs sucked. That was not a foul on Dwight at all. Maybe, but that's not the reason we lost.
