jajk, thanks and congratulations. I'm glad you recognized OT's contributions as much as we do. Enjoy the next week as it's a great time for a team knowing they're in the Big Dance. Ask all Peacock fans to keep the OT in their prayers.

The better team doesn't always win... the team that plays better wins. Congrats to SPC, they dictated the tempo and were the better team last night.
If oldtimer had his laptop with him he'd get a big kick out of all the well wishes.
We're all pulling for you, oldtimer... get well soon.

Got the hangover this morning of one who feels like we "let one slip away." But I'm sure the guys feel worse. Great season getting to the MAAC final. I feel a lot better than I did the previous two years when we left after the first game.

They did reach the MAAC final, and they did win a ton of games this year, but that doesn’t guarantee entry. The Fairfield Stags are in by default as the regular season champs after losing in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament."

Here's hoping Oldtimer is alright and back here with his wonderful thoughts; then we can all have something to celebrate more important than W's and L's after last night.

First off, extremely disappointing loss considering the roll we were on and the way we handled St. Peter’s in the first two meetings. Hats off to the St. Peter’s players, coaches and fans, they were the better team tonight. They never allowed us to get into an offensive rhythm; outside of Glover none of our guys never looked comfortable out there. They slowed the game down to a snails pace and our guys (coaches and players) were clearly flustered the entire game. Dunne came up with a great game plan and Leon and Co. executed it to perfection.
I just feel it was not our night; it surely was not for lack of effort. Yes we were down a shooter but we were just off all night. No excuses.
Hopefully this team gets to play another game or two together because guys Like Rah and Arod deserve that.
Next season will surely bring lofty expectations. Coach will have a year of D1 experience under his belt and not many teams in the nation can boast returning an inside-outside combo of the status of Glover and Machado. We will have many solid role players in Symth, Jenkins, Armand, Pelch, Randy and Trinity. I hear we have an extremely talented 6-7 wing player coming in next year as well.
Want to thank the entire team and coaching staff for an outstanding and fun filled season! Go Gaels!

Agree that is more important than an Iona win. I still have to vent some though. From now on I will not watch Iona live in a big game. I'll dvr it and watch it later. We've got great kids at Iona but I've only got so much hair to pull out. Missed lay ups and bunnies drive me nuts especially when I can see the guys are pressing.

Right from the opening tip things weren't the same. Glover never loses one of these and a bad toss by ref resulted in that. I thought the refs stunk but that isn't why we lost.
We just missed everything and no bounces went our way. Shot too well last two nights, we were due for a stinker.
When the SPC player tried to go behind the back and the ball landed right to another underneath for a layup you knew what kind of day it was going to be. Having more Seniors helped SPC as well.
Dwight played well for 2 games but what I was afraid of happening happened. He tried too hard to score and really hurt us offensively by taking too many shots and handling the ball too much. He did make some nice steals and did not commit a foul that last play.
I said Iona would be in NIT if we got to final but that was assuming we played Fairfield, now it is 50/50.
Watch the NCAA screw the Maac as I wouldn't doubt SPC gets a play in game. Since we are a bunch of small institutions they seem to like to put us there when we have a marginal team.
No one will be in Springfield, that was a mistake, that 3rd year you are going to have under 1,000 people at the game.
Again I hope Oldtimer is OK.

Add that prayer Wesley Jenkins threw up and went in with a little over a minute left to play with the and 1 and you knew it wasn't Iona's night.

Joebird, you forgot to mention your "support" rule--the more Iona fans in the building, the more likely of a defeat.
A truly terrible evening--and I agree re Glover not winning the tap--you got a feeling just a couple minutes in that this was going to be a struggle.
St Peter's is a pure joy to watch on the defensive end of the floor. I don't think they have a prayer at winning an NCAA game because they're not very good offensively, but if they get the right sort of opponent (Wisconsin?) their D could make any game somewhat interesting.
I do feel we are square on the NIT bubble. The secondary question is whether we'll bother with one of those C tournaments should the NIT pass us by.

We had a 4 game stretch of similar play before our streak. Had some of those 3's hit it would have been a different outcome. They packed the middle and it looked like a blue court at times.

SPC's defensive gameplan was brilliant--they overcommitted on the perimter to deny the 3, thus forcing our guards to drive the paint--then they played passing lanes in the paint so that the guard couldn't dump off to Glover or anyone else for an easy two.
