SPC's defensive gameplan was brilliant--they overcommitted on the perimter to deny the 3, thus forcing our guards to drive the paint--then they played passing lanes in the paint so that the guard couldn't dump off to Glover or anyone else for an easy to. Guy, Did you feel that Cluess felt that AROD and Pelch were playing so poorly that he wanted them on the bench for good, or that the smaller faster team was the way to go, or BOTH?

I congratulate the Peacocks but it is now over for them. They will never be able to get away with the contact they did last night as 14/15seed in the NCAA. They will be lucky to score 50 points no matter who they play.. The amount of bumping and holding was absurb and a good reason why we never seemed to be taking good shots.
That said and as we all know you have to finish around the rim and we didn't, but we played hard as hell but maybe not as smart as the Peacocks.
Final comment on game, they hit their 3, we didn't
Oldtimer get well we miss you already.

I have avoided posting until now because I thought I might smash my laptop against the wall half way through. First, and most importantly, OLDTIMER - GET WELL SOON - OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU! Total credit to St. Pete's - they outplayed and out gameplanned Iona all night. There was much grabbing and banging going on which definitely had an effect on us - that's the type of thing that will hurt our style and work into St. Pete's style - I do not criticize St. Pete's for taking what the refs allow. Soemone, earlier, had said this didn't hurt as much as past years - for me, this hurt worse. We are a better team than we have been in several years and we were definitely peaking whereas in past recent years that has not been the case. As to Alejo and Pelch getting limited playing time, I think coach saw that with St. Pete's style controling the tempo, our quicker - smaller lineup was needed. If we ever could have turned the tempo up, things might have been different. Never happened. The one positive I come out of this with is that this loss was not from lack of effort! I heard some comments of "they wanted it more than we did". I disagree - They perfectly executed the only game plan that would work for them against Iona. Once they dictated tempo and we were unable to change that, we were in trouble. I hope this team can recover from this in time for a possible NIT bid - from some of post-game comments I have heard I think they can. As to a C Tournament, personally, I don't see a huge upside. However, I would leave that decision to TC, the coaches and the players. If their mindset is not positive, a C Tournament appearance could be more damaging than helpful. Whatever the outcome - CONGRATULATIONS TO TC, THE GAEL PLAYERS AND THE ENTIRE STAFF ON A GREAT SEASON!

I think he wanted to go smaller, but I also felt he felt that he needed his best offensive players on the floor, and neither Pelch nor Alejo fit that role. Cluess said afterward that Alejo's legs were not there, after two straight games. His ineffectiveness and Kyle going down hurt us a lot.

The realization here is that we missed a big opportunity, IMO.

Simple game plan--they elected to let Dwight beat them. They took the gamble that he could not score like he had in the previous 2 games.

We make 2 more 3's and we win. Armand was 0-5. Maybe if Cluess played Armand outside of garbage time the first two games he wouldn't have been so off. Sean not getting many minutes in game 1 & 2 may have cost us game 3.

SPC outplayed us with their game plan, plain and simple. Let's give credit where credit is due. We still had a great year and at least one monster year coming. If we don't get a post-season invite, Rah and Alejo thanks for many wonderful years. Your basketball talent, demeanor -- on and off the court -- and in the classroom make me proud that you're Gaels.

I have to give St. Peter's their due, they earned that win last night. They did what they had to do! I just can't get over the belief had Iona won last night they were going to get a win or two in the NCAA's with this team, I felt the stars were lined up for a nice run, too bad!

Dunne is the best coach in the MAAC imo. He uglied up the game and that was the only way they could beat us. Belin, a 24% 3 point shooter drained 3 in the 1st half, he killed us. Dunne is from my neighborhood, Rockaway Beach, so it will be nice to see a local guy dream.
Hope Oldtimer a quick and easy recovery, we miss ya pal!

During one of our final timeouts, I had the thought as I looked out at the players in the huddle, "is this finally the time when WE win a big one with that last second buzzer beater?" Why do I now think that we will never have that experience? It's our Billy Goat to the Chicago Cubs!
