Joebird, I'm here to help. Take your hand off the mouse and back away from the computer! Keep repeating this phrase - 2012 NCAAs - 2012 NCAAs - 2012 NCAAs. Now, do you feel better? Didn't think so. Let's hope that we're in the conversation for 2011 NIT. P.S. Don't watch the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday - I don't want you disappointed.

I think in 2007 at 2-28 I watched and probably a minuscule part of me still hoped to somehow see our name appear as a sympathy at large pick. So you can bet this year I'll still watch. I think some of us long time fans enjoy pain. "2012 NCAAs, 2012 NCAAs, 2012 NCAA's" No it doesn't help but I now will listen to you and put my mouse down and back away from the computer. Good night!

Based on RPI, we have much better rating that the last few at large bids. So I definately think we have a decent chance at getting an NIT bid. Also, a Fairfield alum friend of mine said FF has been told they are not hosting in the first round. Which is in alignment for their projected seeds in the mock brackets that have been posted. Also in alignment with the fact that the Bridgeport community failed miserably attendance-wise this year. The attendance last night was 3K--I'd guess 2K iona fans and 1K SPC fans. NO ONE from the community came out. Certainly no one from "Stag Nation", as I've seen on a billboard or two in the area. Unfortunately, if Springfield fails, I fear the tourney will go to Albany permanently. I still hope others will get a chance, but Bridgeport blew theirs IMO. Back to Albany? That would be SWEET ;D Seriously, Albany should not get totally cut out. At least once every 3rd or 4th year.

I agree with those that say, "Any tourney is better than no tourney". But I'm surprised by the number of Iona fans who have contacted me and said that they want no part of a C tournament.

If there was a chance of winning the C tournament I think it would be worth it.

Random thoughts: 1. This site -- bracketproject.50webs.com/nit.html -- is the only one of the 3 NIT sites that posted updated brackets--and right now it has us on the outside looking in. Right now, our RPI is 68 by the way. 2. Re the C tournaments--there is NO QUESTION we would have a chance to win either one of them if we end up in them. We'd easily be among the best teams in the field. The issue with these is the $ it costs Iona to participate, particularly if they want to play at home. I still think the school should do it, even if they schedule a couple guarantee games next year to cover those costs. 3. MTS--I think Bridgeport was the last hope of a non-neutral site that did at least OK. The community TOTALLY bailed on the MAAC final, which is unacceptable. The numbers would have been very good had Fairfield reached the final, no question--but they didn't, and the entire community said screw it, I'm not going to watch Iona and SPC. So, screw Bridgeport--and this is coming from someone who lives 10 minutes from the arena. Ensor's been quoted regularly about how he's confident the Springfield area would embrace the tournament, though of course the schools need to do more to get their own people up there. This will remain to be seen. Best gauge would be in the finals (assuming Siena's not in it). If Ensor's right, even if, say, Iona and SPC were to meet again up there, they'd surpass the 3K that saw this year's finals in BPort.

ctbill - I am a CCSU grad living in Fla. My father and brother are Iona alum. I was accepted at Iona but went to CCSU. Back in the 70- 80's, my father had season tickets for Iona.

Play the tournament. As seniors, Rah and Arod deserve to play at least one more game (hopefully a few) based not only on this season’s success but what they have endured over the past 4 and 5 years respectively.
In terms of the returning players, 2011/2012 ‘can’ surely be a special season in terms of overall and conference record, RPI, post season appearance, etc. if the team truly comes together and few things break the right way. I say give these guys another game together, hopefully end this season on a high note heading into next season.
Also, correct me if I am wrong, the MAAC next year, outside of Iona and Fairfield, looks not to be overly strong. Are we playing in a pre-season tournament and, I know this is way-too early, who is on our non-conference schedule? Is it possible to have a high enough RPI to make the NCAA tourney as an at-large god forbid we lay another stinker in the Finals next year?

Thanks ctbill. tough loss but we put ourselves in that positions by dropping games down the stretch. Sorry for the loss to St Peter's - watched the game and it seem like Iona could just not find that rhythm. Three games in three days is hard, not sure I like that format. Anyway, hoping the Gaels get an NIT bid. Hope LIU wins otherwise, another NIT bid will be gone.

I agree 100% that Iona should play in any tournament that invites us, for the reasons you stated. Regarding next year, at this point FF and Iona look like co-favorites. I'm not sure if anyone else can contend. Possibly Loyola or Rider. SPC will have huge graduation losses, so I don't see them contending. Canisius loses a bunch of good seniors and wasn't that good anyway. Hayseed nation loses Rossiter and Jackson, but keeps Mitch, which seems like the formula for a single digit win total. Manhattan, Marist and Niagara should improve, but probably not nearly enough to threaten IC or FF. Unless Iona goes something like 27-4 and loses in the MAAC final, and at large will be tough. Even with a strong non-conference SOS (who are we playing?), the MAAC SOS will drag Iona's RPI down.

Rider's already accepted a bid to a C Tourney, and other schools have too.
The NIT selection show is at 9 pm on Sunday. If Iona isn't selected for the NIT, the staff needs to be on the phone with these tournaments IMMEDIATELY, or they'll get shut out. Those spots fill up FAST, and they don't care who they get.

I think they should also reach out to the usual contributors and ask for funds toward it.
The problem as I undestand it in the past was that their were competing uses for Alumni funds.
