I think people are making the assumption that Springfield is a basketball hotbed because the Hall of Fame is there, I have a friend who lives in a nearby town who says the opposite, that despite the HOF being there, basketball is not that popular. This could be a disaster.

The school should commit to the possibility of C Tourney NOW. Rally the alumns for any shortfall. Haven't other Maac programs announced their desire to compete? Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

I asked the guy who does the chicagonow bracketology who were his last few teams out. He said, in no specific order, Drexel, Northwestern, Maryland, Valparaiso, Iona, Hofstra.
We are squarely on the bubble.
And I am not convinced we'll be in a C tournament if we don't get in the NIT--which would be pathetic. What are we playing basketball for if we're not going to go to postseason tournaments when invited?
I'm going to make this clear right now: if we don't get an NIT bid and we opt not to play in a C Tournament, I WILL be raising a stink. There is NO acceptable reason for not playing. The staff and the players have been busting their asses for months, and they've EARNED this. And, quite frankly, so have the fans.

He has URI as the final NIT at-large, yet we have a 30 point advantage in RPI. On the last five out list, Valpo is the only school with a better RPI than us (1 point). Drexel is a few spots behind us and the others are in the 90 range. We beat Hofstra to boot. Plus Glover and Machado have gotten alot of positive press. I think we have a decent shot but wouldn't be surprised it the NIT shut us out.

Plus James Madison as a 6 seed looks dicey. They have an 89 RPI and played there best hoops early in the season. The other 6 seeds have wins against big time opponents, so those would make sense.

Of the top 4 teams in the MAAC, we would be the only team to not play in post seaon, even though we have the best RPI, strength of schedule, and are the most exciting to team to watch. Totally unacceptable if we turn down a C. I will have a hard time finanically supporting Iona athlectics in the future. The staff, the players and the fans deserve to see them in some post season tournament. Guy, let me know if I can help you in any way if they turn down the C-bid. I think pressure must be applied to the cureent Ad and President, as well as the new ones coming in. Iona needs to step up and prove they care about their basketball players, coaches, and fans.

Don't get me started about funds and fund raising. I worked in that field, and briefly for Iona. Every part of the school needs fund raising to enhance itself. I realize basketball and 200 supporters are not all that important in the big scheme of things, but $50,000 are you kidding me?!!! Ironic, the news today has Sister Suzie all over it, saying she stole $850,00 from the school, but did not say what she did with it. Unbelievable. I hope I am wrong, but I have a bad feeling about Sunday. I would gladly eat every word if Iona steps up and proves me wrong.

gfan80, if you want us to pressure the new AD, you'll have to let us know his or her name. An e-mail address would also be helpful. Thanks.

ONE QUESTION:
Does anyone KNOW the team's attitude toward a C Tournament?
I am not talking about the school administration's attitude, I am not talking bout the athletic department's attitude or the AD's attitude.
I am not talking about the fans' attitude.
I am talking about the players and coaches ONLY. Does anyone KNOW their desires regarding a C-Tournament should the NIT not come calling?
The feelings and desires of the players and coaches should trump the feelings of fans, athletic department and school administration.
I would think that might be the most important consideration before any stink is initiated.
Again, I ask the question, does anyone KNOW (not assume - KNOW) the feelings of the coaches and players in this matter?
