Good question, but coach did say in one article that he felt the team deserved to play another game. I would imagine that was a yes vote.

It could very well be that is the case. My point is simply, I don't know and I think before any fans/alum start making a stink they might want to be sure of the team's desires. Last year there was criticism for the assumption that some part of the Iona administration placed its desires ahead of the desires of the team. Unless we know how the team feels, to start a "stink" if we don't go after a C-Tournament, could be a case of the fans/alums placing their desires over the team's if the team is not interested.

I've heard some behind-the-scenes stuff for potential reasons as to why we wouldn't do a C tourney, and I still strongly disagree.

ONE QUESTION: Does anyone KNOW the team's attitude toward a C Tournament? I am not talking about the school administration's attitude, I am not talking bout the athletic department's attitude or the AD's attitude. I am not talking about the fans' attitude. I am talking about the players and coaches ONLY. Does anyone KNOW their desires regarding a C-Tournament should the NIT not come calling? The feelings and desires of the players and coaches should trump the feelings of fans, athletic department and school administration. I would think that might be the most important consideration before any stink is initiated. Again, I ask the question, does anyone KNOW (not assume - KNOW) the feelings of the coaches and players in this matter? I know that Armand wants to play. Small sampling, obviously. Also, it should be noted that we don't know how hurt Smyth is.

Turning down a C tourney invite would be unacceptable... if you're D1, you fund as a D1.
If you chose not to, then you don't belong and shouldn't be jerking around the people who write checks every year to help support the athletic programs.

If we're not going to function as a D-1 program, let's close up shop and I'll stop wasting my time with this. I'll follow St. Mary's.

Let's see here. Departing President, departing AD..... sounds like a C Tourney can easily get lost in the move....
I could be wrong but my gut tells me that there is much chance of a C Tourney as there is getting the Football team back.

As one of the people who has been writing yearly checks, albeit modest amounts, supporting the Annual Fund and Goal Club, I am not convinced spending any money on C tourneys is worthwhile. Does it really help recruiting, or provide productive PR? Should the coaches and players’ opinions bear more weight than college administrators who will have to spend the money? I for one would not be interested in writing another check to offset the cost of a C tourney. How many out there would? I am sure most will disagree though.

I'd write a check if the basketball community was behind it. I'd also write a check to upgrade the bathrooms and concessions at Hynes which are inefficient and dated.
Winning the C Tournament would be huge!

While there may disagreement about this subject, at least we are showing the school that there is a passion for the program. This alone deserves their respect.

This is a great discussion and both sides make valid points. I come down on the side of going to a C tournament if invited. While I understand the argument of letting the players decide, I don't think I agree with it. Besides, I don't really understand why a basketball player would not want to play basketball. Some teams in the past have conducted votes and opted out the NIT, and for the most part regretted it afterwards. Would it help with recruiting? Doubtful, but ask any coach, the more games you play, the better the team gets. Always a positive for the next season if you can keep playing. JMO

Hell yes, it helps with recruiting to say you played in the postseason. It CANNOT help recruiting to say that we WOULD have been in the postseason but we chose not to spend the money.
Again: if you're going to have a program, and you get invited to participate in the posteason, WHY WOULD YOU NOT DO IT.

I can't imagine the decision being the current AD's. Anyone know where they are in the hiring process.

Smyth being hurt could give NIT a reason to push us on the other side of the bubble.
