Latest I've heard is that OT is doing better, hear he's out of ICU but still in and out of consciousness.

Latest I've heard is that OT is doing better, hear he's out of ICU but still in and out of consciousness. Evidently, OT had a major setback. We can only hope and pray that he recovers so that he can get back to enjoying his Gaels. When we see that, we know he is back to a full life with his family. We look for the return of the double posts.

Gentlemen,
OldTimer's son here ...
Thank you all for your very kind comments and words of well-wishes, above. Very much appreciated.
As many of you know, OT suffered a stroke at Monday's Iona game in Bridgeport. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he is receiving the very best of care. Initial findings were encouraging ... though he lost some (but not all) mobility on his right side, his speech was rather good (bitching about the food!), with all of his awareness and senses good. The doctors said that his prospects for recovery through rehab were encouraging. Our family was hoping to get him into Burke in White Plains.
That said, he suffered a setback on Friday night (3/11) ... a buildup of fluid in his head. He went into surgery yesterday, where a shunt was put in to relieve the pressure. The head neurosurgeon said that the procedure went very well, and that he's hopeful that OT will cross this new hurdle OK.
OT is recovering in ICU. The fabulous nurse team there said it's likely he'll begin to wake up within the next 24-48 hours.
We are all saying our prayers, and hope that it's only a matter of time before he's bitching about the food (again!), and talking about all of the great players Iona has lined up for their winning season next year!
He's a tough oldtimer, and we're all cheering for him, as I'm sure are all of you.
Thank you, again, for your thoughts and prayers.
TJ

Thanks for the update. I had called a few times and got the voicemail, but I didn't want to bother anyone in your family with a need of feeling they needed to call back. I brought your dad to the game and was with him when he took ill. As you can see by the response from everyone on this board, we all love his wit and entertaining commentary. You've got a great dad who like mine was a product of the greatest generation.
We're all cheering for that tough old marine to be complaining about the food again.
Thoughts and prayers are with him and your family.
-Chris
