Gentlemen, OldTimer's son here ... Thank you all for your very kind comments and words of well-wishes, above. Very much appreciated. As many of you know, OT suffered a stroke at Monday's Iona game in Bridgeport. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he is receiving the very best of care. Initial findings were encouraging ... though he lost some (but not all) mobility on his right side, his speech was rather good (bitching about the food!), with all of his awareness and senses good. The doctors said that his prospects for recovery through rehab were encouraging. Our family was hoping to get him into Burke in White Plains. That said, he suffered a setback on Friday night (3/11) ... a buildup of fluid in his head. He went into surgery yesterday, where a shunt was put in to relieve the pressure. The head neurosurgeon said that the procedure went very well, and that he's hopeful that OT will cross this new hurdle OK. OT is recovering in ICU. The fabulous nurse team there said it's likely he'll begin to wake up within the next 24-48 hours. We are all saying our prayers, and hope that it's only a matter of time before he's bitching about the food (again!), and talking about all of the great players Iona has lined up for their winning season next year! He's a tough oldtimer, and we're all cheering for him, as I'm sure are all of you. Thank you, again, for your thoughts and prayers. TJ I just saw this. Thank you very much for posting this for us. Tell him to get his rest now, because we are anticipating another Iona home game this year that he has to get his butt to!!!! Prayers to your family.

He loves Iona so much that horrible first half last Monday made him seriously ill and since the boards not the same without him.
I hope he is able to know we won a post season game and maybe Iona still playing can help him recover. We need him around next year so he can enjoy the special year we are going to have.

Hello all,
OldTimer's son TJ here again. Sitting here with OT at his 8th-floor "penthouse" room at the hospital in Bridgeport. After a long, tough week, OT is beginning to wake up, open his eyes a bit more, give us "those looks" that he does so well, and nods yes or no to our questions.
We've had ESPN on the TV, and talking to him about the games. (No Iona in the NCAA's, of course.) But we did tell him about the big CIT win. And, with him by my side, I logged into the Iona forum here, and read him aloud all of your many kind, thoughtful, and humorous words of well wishes posted above.
I have to say, that my reading your posts to him cheered him up, and brought the brightest smile to his eyes that we've seen throughout this difficult past week.
The thoughts and prayers of all of you mean the world to our family, and to OT, especially. He really loves all of the comraderie that he's shared with all of you here for so long, and your fond wishes for him now are a blessing to aid him in his recovery.
On behalf of all of our family, thank you all. Please continue to offer your well wishes, and perhaps a humorous note or chuckle. I'll continue to share your thoughts with OT, and if today's response is any indication, I am ever hopeful that he'll be cheering on the Gaels during Tuesday's big game, and back here on the forum soon with all of you dreaming about next year's big season!
Many thanks to all. Please continue to keep OT in your prayers.
TJ

TJ, Thanks very much! Let's get OT back in game shape - we need him back as do his beloved Gaels! BTW, he might like some other Gael news. Last week Lenny Korir won the 5K NCAA National Championship - that is Iona's first ever National Championship. Yesterday, the Iona softball team beat 20th ranked Hawaii - you don't need to tell him they lost a doubleheader today. Tell OT we're waiting to win our next National Championship until next year when OT can join us for the Final Four! Prayers and best wishes to your dad, yourself and your entire family!

Thanks TJ, that is indeed encouraging news, and despite the doubleheader loss, that makes it a good week all-around in Gael country! ;D
