Iona at valpo 8PM Wed on fox sports broadband. Iona and Valpo are two best teams in the field, why are they playing each other? also this says Iona committed on Friday how did no one know? www.collegeinsider.com/tournament/results.html

Teams are very similar. Valso has beaten teams we lost to if I remember correctly.

Joebird is right. Valpo and Iona are two of the strongest teams in that field... why are they playing each other in the first round?
Perhaps the winner will be one of the teams that gets a bye into the quarters?
Rider is riddled with injuries, how the hell are they going to compete?
Very glad the balls haven't been put away and A-Rod and Rah have more to play.

If they are really putting top 4 winners based on RPI into next round, winner of this game should be in quarters.
Have a feeling we don't want to pay for a home game and were told we need to play a top team like Valpo and if we win we are in quarters, probably on the road again.

The Advisory Committee includes Don Harnum, AD at Rider. I'm excited that we get to extend the season. Another opportunity for St. Scott and St. Mike to spread the Iona BB gospel.

Iona and Valpo have the 2nd and 3rd highest RPIs in the field. Winner will definitely get a 2nd round bye.

Valpo has some quality wins... Butler, Oakland and Cleveland St.
This is a tough matchup.

Comments and answers:
1. Best team in the field is Marshall, with an RPI in the 50s. Iona and Valpo the next 2. If you put faith in the RPI, the rest of the field is pretty weak.
2. My guess is that the weaker RPI teams that agreed to host were not willing to shell out the money and then be rewarded with hosting a top 70 team. So, IMO, we were going to either Marshall or Valpo.
3. Iona agreed to be in the tourney on Friday PENDING that they were not picked for the NIT. In other words, they reserved a spot. Other teams do/did this as well.
4. If we can win Wednesday--tough game--we should get a bye to the quarters, and I suspect we'll be hosting that game. We should be very much in the mix to win this thing should we survive Wednesday.
5. Next things I want to know are the seedings for the field and the health of our players.

Was cynical and cranky all weekend. Well done to the College and whoever stepped up to make this happen. I'm happy for the guys and I'm sure they were devastated after Monday night. Have some fun, guys.

I'm hopeful, because we'll be playing a team that has not "seen" us yet, much like Liberty. I realize that the same applies to us, but I feel our talent is better. Only downside, besides being on the road, is that I don't expect Kyle ro play, just a feeling, and that will hurt. Hope I'm wrong about KS's availability.
