Im going to have nightmares of that fat dude behind the basket with his shirt off during foul shots Yeah, as soon as that guy takes his shirt off, it should be a technical. BTW, some of the charge calls we got hit with in the first half were riduculous. And at one point with about a minute left we let the ball roll into mid court before picking it up, the whole time the clock was running. But neither made a difference. Which is why Cluess needed to unleash on the refs in the 1st half. Take the tech, than get some calls

Basically this same team mopped the floor with Hofstra last year by 25 and they had an NBA player (Charles Jenkins). Could've used Chris Pelcher to clog up the middle on defense. Don't understand why JJ wasn't in there as another trey option when they began to double on Kyle on the perimeter.
Gaels need to forget about this game and get themselves refocused.

The Hofstra Athletic Center is impressive around the court. I'd like to eventually see Iona have a home court in a similar vain, however, the flow from ticket sales, to refreshment stand and bathroom lines were all unacceptable and it wasn't even a sell out. Their crowd lacked any intensity though. Maybe toward the end of the season it will be an intimidating place for a road team to come into, but it certainly wasn't tonight......and the Gaels gave them plenty to cheer about with all our turnovers.

The real "WTF" look should have gone to the defender who was conspicuously absent each time a Hoftsra player hit a three while wide open from the left corner.

Iona RPI only falls to 27 courtesy of site Nick posted. I guess my calculation of 35 with two wins was wrong. Its funny a home win against a bad team drops your RPI more than a road loss to a mediocre team.
Gaels always give up way too many wide opens 3's, especially in the first half.
I am already a wreck over Maac tourney. After tonight it is hard to say this but an at leage is still alive despite everyone giving up on it. 2 losses a big bracket buster win and a close Maac tourney championship loss and I think Iona gets one of those play in games. Now everyone can go ahead and call me crazy but I think that is what would happen especially if St Joes has a big year.
However I don't think Iona has just 2 losses left in them.

The only offense we run is the weave. Other than that I saw nothing. Althought that was an incredible out of bounds play in the 1st half.

Horrible first half, way too many fouls called throughout.
Really we lost due to the "Joebird Rule"--there were a lot of Iona fans in the building, so of course we had to lose. ;-)

Movement was very poor tonight. Where was Trinity Fields tonight? Was he dressed? After the crap start I would have sent a message to the team.... by playing my bottom five. Somebody should send Cluess a copy of "Miracle" because I think he needs to add a little bit of Herb Brooks to his coaching skills to motivate these guys. If I was Taj I would have asked MoMo how 6 for 20 felt and told him to shut the fuck up. I love MoMo but he needs to lead by example and not with bitching... especially when he takes a lot of crazy chances.

A few times I did notice Scott looking to pass the ball up the court to Momo, but he was running with back turned. Momo sometimes buries himself in the corner

I just see no reason to talk about an at large. Could we still get one? I guess it is possible, if we run the table and lose in the championship game, but we need to take all question out of the equation and just win the MAAC tourney.
If and/or when Iona is discussed as a bubble team, ESPN will show "Good Wins: St. Joe's, Maryland, Denver " and Bad Losses: Hofstra". The only other potential good win we have is in the bracketbuster. Any loss to a MAAC team other than Loyola and/or Fairfield will be added to the "Bad Losses" category.
I love this team and they can still be the first Iona team to win a couple of NCAA games. But we cannot afford any more lapses like the one in the last 10 minutes of the first half tonight.
Go Gaels!!!

Last comments of the night:
The team yells at each other too much during the game.
I worry about Machado in a big game, he is still yet to prove he can win when it counts.
When I look back at how I felt at the start of the road trip, I thought they were going to lose against either Marshall, Richmond or Denver at I thought they were going to be upset by either Vermont, W&M or Hofstra, so it ended up as expected for me but its hard to look at tonight's game with anything but major disappointment.
Rest of the year I expect 3 maac losses and a bracket buster win but I don't know what to expect in the Maac tourney, I just know it won't be fun until and unless the horn sounds Monday night and Iona is cutting down the nets.
