I watched the second half and I saw some scary trends. I complete lack of patience and a team that seems to have no court awareness ( basketball smarts ) on how to get back into the game. My questions are: was I watching a poorly coached ( prepared team ); a group of athletes that when push comes to shove and fall behind against a good team, are incapable of making good decisions ; a team that will have a tendency to play bad games from time to time and not live up to our expectations; or was it just a bad game, knowing that good teams usually don't play games that poorly; a team that has the ability to come up with a stinker in the MAAC playoffs; or a team that just took the night; or just the effects of a very very very long road trip?
Don't know but I now have a lot of food for thought.

Just have to hope this team doesn't have too many stinkers in them. Last year it was every 4th or so game. Can not afford this, this year. We need to avoid any stinkers come Springfield. I have my concerns, truly good teams will play well all 3 nights come Maac tourney time.

I commented to a colleague after the William & Mary game that IOna seemed bored with the level of competition, that they seemed to be going through the motions. They were playing like a team that needed a challenge.
Although I did not see it coming last night, they sure got it last night. I thought we lost our composure against Hofstra in the second half, and said so in the Chat room. It will be interesting to see how they respond to getting rattled by Hofstra.

Mike could have 20 boards a game with a little more effort and technique That would be quite an accomplishment, given that no D1 player has even averaged 15 rebounds per game for a season, since 1980. Not too many big men with his talent come to play in Maac

Is it me or does it seem like Mike is going through a period where he's having trouble holding on to the ball?

It was a bad game and a bad loss. They just came of a stretch where they're playing every three or four days to a 8 day respite and laid an egg. It happens and they'll rebound from this. I'm not in the least bit concerned about that loss, I'm happy at 10-3 and expect a tough battle with Fairfield and Loyola for the Maac title. There's still a long way to go, if we're going to have some stinkers let's have them now instead of later. If we played our best game and lost like this then I would worry, but they are human and the for whatever reason the had an off night. The best is yet to come!

The big picture is that Iona is 10-3 despite playing only 2 home games while playing a generally challenging schedule to boot.

alot of good thoughts here but it is just one game and it happens.....18 turnovers in the first half was just too much, i agree that the team yells at each other too much but i believe that is only because of their cometetive nature. Kyle shot looked great and MoMo was too out of control IMO..Hofstra was in the bonus in both halves before the 10 minute mark so that also will slow a team down...i agree that the refs made alot of questionable calls but that alone did not cost Iona the game...on the bright side down 18 points they still almost managed to pull it out

Iona is a top 40 team. Not sure why this annoys you so much. College basketball is much more watered down than 10 years ago. That is why you see Butler and VCU in the final four. Take a look at Florida, Pittsburgh and some other top 25 teams on TV, they simply aren't that good. Iona is just as good on 50% of the nights. Also take a look at the computer ratings, sagarin, RPI and Vegas power ratings all think they are top 40. The computers are not biased. Sagarin rating 52, Vegas Power Ranking 61. They are not a top 40 team. I am sorry, but they are not. I love them but they are not.

I'm tired of seeing MoMo with his hands on his hips, looking like he's disgusted with his teammates. He literally wears his feelings on his facial expressions and it doesn't breed positive vibes for the entire team. He needs an attitude adjustment and fast. When they were getting embarrassed, no one was there to keep their spirits up or even FIRE UP the team. I did not see one ounce of leadership on that floor last night. IMO, this team needs to first exhibit that they have each others backs before they can really become a formidable national contender.

One thing I liked about Willard was when the team was going through the motions he'd go to the bench. Why so few minutes for Jermel?

Anyone seeing Hoftras facilities has to scratch the heads by what might have been with the Hynes restoration. Lossed opportunity.

Anyone seeing Hoftras facilities has to scratch the heads by what might have been with the Hynes restoration. Lossed opportunity. Iona is smack in the middle of a zoned residential neighborhood who fought the school tooth and nail to add Mazzella Field with seating 20 years ago. A permanent scoreboard and press box was even fought, that's why you'll notice that both are portable (on wheels). The compromise is the current field which is vastly scaled down from the original plan. Residential zoning limits the size of structures that can be built on the land - I believe the height limit is 3 stories. There's no way they could build something of Hofstra's magnitude where the current Hynes Center stands - they would have to find a tract of land someplace else.
