It's fun to look back--but our OOC turned out to be fairly difficult with 3 teams in the top 50 as well as a total of 5 OOC teams in the top 100. That's 8 games against the top 100. Add in URI and 3 against Siena, and that's 12 games against top 105.Too bad we didn't get one or 2 of those. The injuries hurt early.
Also fun to look back at earlier posts. One of my favorites was after the Oregon St Game:
Road games at Monmouth, Manhattan, Canisius, and Siena will be difficult games, based on our performance in the first two games.
Another sigh of relief for Monmouth as Fordham goes down in the A10.
Why would you say this? I don't think Monmouth, or anyone else, was worried about Fordham advancing. Fordham improved a lot with a real coach leading them, but they were no danger to go deep in the A10 tourney. Not being a bad joke anymore is the thing for them, and they achieved that this season. Still a very loooong way to go for Fordham.
1983, sorry I should have included a after the post. My dig has to do with all the speculation of how losses will affect Monmouth's chance for an At Large.
I see where the Fordham coach, who has done a good job in his first year, is hoping for a post season bid, with their 17-13 record. And if I were a FU fan, I would also. JP at Siena is also looking to continue their season. I bring this up because many were hoping that if we didn't win the MAAC that we WOULDN'T go Alphabet City. For me the more games the better. However, none of us know, probably, what the College's position is on the lesser tournaments. My point is that if you do want to play in one of these tournaments, you must have a decent record. Now other than St. John's, Fordham had the weakest OOC schedule of a NY Metro team in years. So, if Monmouth, who had one of the best, if not the best, OOC sked doesn't get an At Large, then why not play cupcakes and build up your record.*
*Note to Guy this is an opinion and not a question.

We have a senior-laden team. Program would not benefit from continued play; had we not danced., I would prefer that funds be diverted to a pre-season, out of country trip to benefit next year's underclassmen. Those teams have more to gain from continued play for non-seniors.
Super, you make a valid point. However, continued play = continued pub. Also, with a senior laden team, it would give guys coming back added PT. Especially, McGill and Proctopr. And being a fan, and not paying the bills, I'd like both.
The C tournaments are really geared toward programs that are rebuilding or trying to establish themselves to begin with. Siena and Iona fit the rebuilding definition when they playing in them a few years ago. I really don't think a C tournament makes any sense for Siena now. For programs like Fordham or Wagner, a C tournament makes sense this year.

Well done!
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

The C tournaments get no meaningful publicity. Thankfully this is a moot point and we are playing in the tournament that matters!
Oregon State falls to 19-12 after losing to #24 Cal 76-68.
#19 Duke, which several bracket projections have had Iona matched up against, lost to unranked Notre Dame 84-79. (Hmmm, let's see: Notre Dame beat Duke, Monmouth beat Notre Dame, we took 2 of 3 against Monmouth. Logically, we should have a good chance to upset Duke then.
According to the Fordham Message Board, they will be playing Boston Univ. in the CIT. It only cost the school $30K. I can't find the other schools, though I've seen the list, and while I don't remember all the names, I came away with the feeling that a 'field' that includes schools with 200+ RPI's is a farce. However, I don't blame Fordham for buying the bid. You have to start somewhere. But right now Iona is playing DI and Fordham is playing CYO.
