I'll take this assignment as I want to crawl into the fox hole with the guys. Appears will be missing Sed, AJ, Amayo, and McGill. That's a lot of quality guards. Going to fall to Ibn, Proctor, and Much. Three talented guys who aren't used to being the primary pieces on the team. Got to think the starting five will be the same as Texas So.
Ibn Proctor Much Williams Washington
Rhody is without EC Matthews who many had as the A-10 pre-season player of the year. Common opponent so far I believe is just Valpo. We both lost. Iona on the road, Rhody at home.
Rountree has been a really good leader and has done a lot well. He needs to continue. Glad Ryden is back. Not in game shape yet. Bessick needs to shake off more rust.
Probably will be a physical game. Washington needs to keep his head. Last thing we need with injuries is a suspension. Guards need to take care of the ball. No bigs dribbling up against pressure.
Ken Pom has us losing 82-74.
Will be interesting to see Cluess's approach here. Last year when IW went down, we slowed things down a bit, focused a lot more on defense and rebounding and won a bunch of close games. Question is do we do that here? Two things will be huge. Turn overs or lack thereof and foul trouble. I think to have a chance in this one we need to slow things down a bit, take care of the ball, and commit smart fouls. No reaching in; no fouling a guy who has already beaten you for an and one on a bunny. Move your feet and keep guys in front of you. This game will require great work effort by everyone on defense.
Any more cliches I can throw in there?

Thought we started Rountree
Pretty sure there are bunch of factual errors in my post. That's the way I like to do it. Considering running for President.
Big keys to team's success against URI with the current roster available will be ball movement; high assist/turnover ratio; and staying out of foul trouble. Jordan Washington needs to stay on the court to give that physical low post presence on offense. Would love to see Much and Washington attack the rim to make URI collapse and cover to open up the perimeter for open looks otherwise patience in the 1/2 court will be needed. Rountree operating out of the high post could also open up the game. URI on their home court will be a big challenge. URI currently only allowing 60.5 points per game, #19 nationally. Hopefully the refs will not be a factor in further giving home court advantage.
My thoughts: * With a very short bench, I expect us to play zone and pack it in, as they are not a VG deep shooting team, with the exception of Flor McGlynn, who started his career at Vermont, and I think he might have played against us as a frosh. In their last home game, a win over a good Houston team, they shot 13.3 % from deep. But naturally we tend to elevate those numbers. * Martin is a tough inside player, both offense and defense, as a good shot blocker. And I believe he's a lefty, another type we usually have problems with. * URI is a tough defensive team. And to me that means that they are very physical, and a reason NOT to play AJ, even if he felt up to playing. * URI doesn't seem to be a good free throw shooting team, based on a two game look, their last two games. On the road, Nebraska, they shot 4-8 (50%) and at home, Houston, they shot 13-27 (48%). 27 vs. 8 is a nice home court swing. And I don't hold out hope for getting a good crew to work the game, based on the following-8 Big East games; 10 A10 games: and Syracuse playing at home, also. Students being off should help. * When we get some of our walking wounded back, our team should benefit from having an 'experienced' bench. As all Ryden Hines fans know, he is a pretty good deep threat, and this might be a game when he can hoist a few. And if they go in, I'll hoist a few, also.

Beginning to think the team needs to travel with full medical staff like the pros. The team trainer(s) must be incredibly busy before and after every practice and game with giving treatments and taping the athletes. Nothing worse than trying to prepare for a game and half the team is not readily available for full practice as they are resting/recovery or undergoing treatments. Everyone focuses on who is missing in games, but the impact is greater in practices. Very difficult to run through drills, etc. without enough bodies. I wish the team had more time between games right now to allow some rest. Looking forward to see how Iona responds to URI's defensive pressure and physical play. Coach Hurley must be really working the refs as they have fewer fouls per game than expected. A real shame that URI is without Matthews and Iona is without English. It would have been a great match-up with two high level guards. Feeling the key tomorrow will be ball movement, low turnovers and Jordan Washington down low. GO GAELS!

Team could use some "JB Juice". Did the recipe leave with him?
I have lowered my expectations for the Gaels since a doze of reality has slowly penetrated...I had postings predicting another banner season, but my basketball sense now due to the many new players and the injuries has allowed me to see that is no longer possible...
I will still be looking forward to the rest of season with my usual zeal, but with more realistic goals...
With 18 more MAAC games and 4 more OOC games to go I see a new reachable goal...That being 2-2 with the OOC portion and 13 and 5 with MAAC...Of course these predictions are predicated on the hope we have no further bad luck and with the hope that lady luck will swing are way......and that we will be somewhere near Iona's standards come Tourney time.
This outlook will have no affect on my rooting but I will understand as always that a sport fan fortune is very fragile, and for every game 'there is a loser for every winner'....
