Agreed, but remember the small steps taken in the beginning back then? This team has to start to think big sometime soon. Our window with this group might end next year, and one more game could help next year. While the C is a long way from where we would like to be, winning a game in post season from a team that has won 1 NCAA game and 1 NIT game in its history could not hurt. A championship would be off the charts in my opinion.

Good reply gfan. What's better for the "national image", having the season over or actually playing in the postseason--and remember, some of these games ARE televised.
Ask Fairfield whether coming back from down 27 at George Mason didn't help them, or wasn't noticed on a national level.
If we're not in the NIT, pay the money and ensure postseason. Anything else would be EXTREMELY SMALL-TIME.

Guy, you are so right, about Fairfield and the 27 pt comeback last year against Mason. In their game with St Peters, the announcers must have brought that up 2 or 3 times. One more building block, though a small one.

Regular season champs in action tonight that could steal a bid if they lose...
MEAC - Bethune Cookman loses tonight and steals an NIT automatic bid
Patriot - Bucknell wins and goes dancing
MAC - Kent St playing Ball St in MAC semis
Big West - Long Beach St. playing UC Riverside in BW semis
SWAC - Texas Southern playing Alabama St. in SWAC semis
Southland - McNeese St. plays Texas San Antonio in Southland final tomorrow
I don't have a lot of confidence in any of these teams.

There's been too many upsets. Bethune Cookman may have just stole our bid. One more and we are done. If Gaels had just beat either Kent st or Vermont we would be in NIT.
For me this loss won't stop hurting until next Monday. This team could have won 1 or 2 NCAA games. All these conference upsets and Iona was a 13 with a chance to win.

Texas Southern getting spanked early in the second half.
Can't believe these sh!tty teams are gonna end up in the NIT and we don't.
Blech.

Syracuse lost to UConn - probably not much effect to our RPI
Richmond beat Rhody - again probably not much effect, but doesn't hurt any either.
Kent State leading by 7 in the second half.

If Richmond can upset Temple tomorrow, they should be able to beat the Dayton/St Joes semifinal winner. Suddenly, a win over the A-10 champ bolsters our resume a bit.
That said, I watched the Richmond game. Near the end, the dreaded profile was on the screen, with "Bad loss: Iona" of course on display. Not sure how losing on the road to a top 70 team is a bad loss, but that's mainstream media for you.
Watching Kent State game right now. They're long and athletic--this would have been a good win for us had we held on.

Losing has consequences. Bryant, Cleveland, Kent. I think it's a lesson for next year.

The 3 NIT Bracketology sites have all been updated this morning. Of the 3, one has us in but still subject to being dropped, the second has us squarely on the bubble and the third has us out with the following notation:
"•Since people ask a lot. Teams that were considered for the final at-large spots (which went to Wichita State and Princeton) were: Tulsa, Drexel, Iona, James Madison, Hofstra, Dayton and Valparaiso. Once again those aren't in any particular order. Just want you to know who was on my radar as we move down the stretch. I thought Defiantly Dutch wrote a compelling article about the seeding process, but alas I couldn't find a place for any this time around."

The problem with the Chicagonow one's explanation re Iona is that they make no mention of RPI (better than a lot of other candidates) and the fact that we finished 9-1 and oh yeah, we destroyed our BracketBuster opponent--those last two are supposedly big factors in committees' minds.
But we'll see.
I will say that I'm pretty confident Iona will play in a C tourney if we don't get the NIT bid. Seeing/hearing rumors re the Gaels makes me think our name is out there, and it's partly our doing.
Don't forget, we'll host a chat tomorrow night during the NIT selection show. If we are not picked, last year that Chicagonow site did a great job updating rapid-fire as the C tourney fields filled up. But we may have some other sources at work by then as well.

Apparently, CIT has already filled 14 of its spots. That would leave only 10 more to go after NIT is filled.
